Our crazy weekends

Angelica and i both work on the weekends so it gets pretty hard. Our day starts off with waking up around 7:30-8:30 am we brush our teeth and Myahs teeth and head to the living room. I turn on our projector and put on either YouTube learning videos or of course her favorite movie Moana. Myah watches tv while i make coffee and breakfast. After breakfast I usually get Myah dressed for the day. We just relax until its time for me to go into work. At 11am i try to see if Myah is interested in nursing and if she is i will nurse her. Around 11:15am i start to  get my lunch packed and get myself dressed to go into work, I work from noon until 8pm.  Before i leave for work i try to put Myah down for her first nap. We don't put Myah in daycare so I'm either with her or Angelica is, we work around each others work schedule to make it happen. Myah will wake up from her nap after about an hour to an hour and a half. Angelica will feed her lunch and clean her up and put in the living r...

Receiving the call about Myahs diagnosis.

Around this time two years ago we got the call that our blood test had came back positive and that the chances of Myah being born with down syndrome were 100% I remember being on the phone with the nurse who had called me and told me that my Panorama blood test came back positive, the nurse told me my chances were 100%. I had broke the news to Angelica. She took the news very hard and started to cry. I tried to keep me calm and not cry while still on the phone and wanting to ask questions. How  can you say that it is a likely hood she would from have Down syndrome is 100% by just a blood test? How accurate is this test? She informed me that the tests are 99% accurate. She also informed me that the way they test my blood is they can get babies DNA from my blood sample and test it. I was so confused how they would get all that information by just a blood test i couldn't imagine how someone tells someone they are going to have a child with down syndrome by just a blood test, and th...

How/why we wanted Myah to be a brand rep.

It  all started off with another mom with a little girl named Sabi who is also rocking a little something extra. (If your not already following them go follow them! @sabi.regalo_de_dios ) Sabi's mom Ory sent me a message one day and asked if Myah was a brand rep. I had no idea what a rep was and asked her how and what it was all about. She had told me it is where you apply for positions to help promote small shops and model there products. She sent me a couple small shops that were currently looking for reps and i checked them out. She also told me that i can search for some myself under the hastage brandrepsearch so i checked that out also.  I absolutely wanted to get Myah started in being a rep. I was hesitant at first because i did not know how people would react to me entering her and her having down syndrome. The very first brand rep position i entered Myah in was a small shop called harry_and_dax (follow them on instagram)  to my surprise they actually let...

Breastfeeding Journey

Myah was a NICU baby and that made it very hard for us to breast feed every day. I tried to get her to latch every day but with her low tone it was hard. Myah was not gaining as much weight as they would have liked her to so they put her on formula to get more calories in her. Myah was getting both my breastmilk and formula. I wasn't producing much in the beginning so they also had to give her formula when i had no milk to give.  Myah had developed jaundice so she had to be under the light as much as possible so that limited the time i has to try and get her to latch. Myah came home after a week in the hospital and we continued to try and latch at times it was hard for both her and i, so I continued to pump and give her milk out of a bottle. I developed an over supply of milk. I was on a strict schedule of pumping every two hours during the day and every three hours at night. Myah was sleeping through the night so i had to wake her up to give her a bottles since she was stil...

How we got pregnant!

How did we get pregnant??   At home sperm insemination.  Angelica had watched some videos on successful at home sperm inseminations and figured we would give it a try. The video had a list of things they bought to help themselves conceive.  The things we bought were: Sterilized cups  Syringe  Female menstrual cups (soft cups)  Vitext  Robitussin  Ovulation tests  Pregnancy tests  We started the process in early July 2015,  we had tried to let Angelica have the first baby, we had a known donor. Angelica Took vitext a week before her ovulation to help with her cervix. She also took Robitussin for a week prior to her ovulation to help clear the mucus that surrounds your cervix. We got a positive ovulation test so we got everything ready and headed over to our donors home. We had our donor do his business in the sterilized cup, we then put some of his "swimmers" inside of a syringe and the ...

It's normal

If you get the Down syndrome diagnosis it's normal to be scared and full of emotions. Because you have that "what if" in your mind, but don't be afraid you're child is able to do anything they put their mind to. It will just take them a little longer to learn but the scenic route is the best route.  Don't believe doctors when they tell you that your child will not have a great quality of life, let your child be the one to show you how great there life can be. You can't possibly know how great your unborn child's life can be until they're brought into this world. Of course your scared who wouldn't be you had a picture of the perfect healthy child in your head, your child is still perfect they are in fact extra perfect. Just because your child has down syndrome does not mean that they are down. There is nothing down about down syndrome. Myah is the light of our days she has so much love in her and her smile is heart warming, it can make a bad ...

Myah will always be Myah not Down Syndrome

Yes myah has down syndrome, but she is not down syndrome. There is nothing down about myah, down syndrome does not define her. When we got the diagnosis that myah had Down syndrome we questioned if she would be able to do the "normal" things that typical kids do. Let me tell you she does everything a typical child does and more. Yes, we do take the scenic route but  who doesn't love to learn with their child. Myah works so hard to do what come's easy to typical children and is excited and happy that she accomplished it. We're beyond happy when she accomplishes anything and everything. We are filled with joy and cheer her on every step if the way. Your child is only a baby for a short period of time so why not cherish everything they do. Every child learns at a different pace don't rush them they will eventually get it, it just might take a little more time. No one is perfect but your child is perfect for you.
