We went in for a non-stress May 5, 2016 at 10am. The nurse told me myahs movements in the beginning of the test were great but that she was not moving like she was suppose to be, and I needed to be sent to triage for more monitoring. We went down to triage and was hooked up to the monitors. I was having contractions the whole time. Four hours passed by and the nurse came into check on me i was three centimeters dilated, we were told to take a walk get something to eat and come back in an hour. We had lunch and walked as much as we could before having to go back to triage. Once we got back to triage we were told if i was dilated anymore i would be admitted and need to stay until i had myah. Well lo and behold i was four and a half centimeters dilated. So the process began, I admitted into labor and delivery. I'm not sure what time we finally got there but i was glad we did. We thought myah was going to be a cinco de mayo baby! I was having really bad contractions in my lower back, and boy oh boy did they hurt! I decided to jump in the shower and let the hot water hit my back. That helped but once i got out it started again. My mom decided it would be good to try and take a walk down the hallway. That did not work, i had to made it across the hall but not before having multiple contractions. We finally got back to our room. The nurse asked if i wanted to try a yoga ball which i said yes, i was in so much pain i was willing to try anything! This went on until 7am! The new nurse came in and asked if i wanted an epidural and i said no, i wanted everything to be as natural as it could be. As time went on i was in even more pain the doctors checked me and i was only at nine centimeters, at that point i had been at nine for, four hours. I was exhausted and i could see my wife was too. After 10 hours of being in pain i finally gave in and got an epidural. I don't understand what took me so long it instantly took away the pain. Not all of it but i was no longer screaming from the pain. Six more hours went by and the doctor came in to check me and i was finally at ten centimeters. We had been informed before it was time to have myah but that we would be having her in the operating room due to the fact that the nicu staff would need to be there to make sure that she was ok and did not need any extra help. We went back to the operating room at 10am May 6, 2017 i pushed for an hour and Myah was born at 11:00 am weighing 7lbs 3oz, 19 1/2 inches long. I was so glad she was finally here. The doctors checked myah and said there was nothing considering and that i could take her back to my room. We cuddled and had some family time. Nurses came in to take blood to test her chromosomes. We could by some of Myahs features that she indeed had Down syndrome, but we were awaiting the blood results to insure that it was not genetic.
Since I had successfully breastfed my first daughter when I got pregnant with our second daughter I knew I wanted to breastfeed without a doubt. Little did I know that this journey would be different than my first. With our first daughter she was in the nicu and had latching issues, for the first two months of her life I pumped around the clock. I was up every three hours even though the night. With me being dedicated like I was I grew to have a have an over supply which was great but also very hard to control. At two months she finally latched onto the breast but because of my over supply I have a very fast let down which would cause more issues with her feeding. After having her lip and tongue clipped she was able to be fully breastfed on the breast at four months old and she went on to nurse until she was two and a half years old. My second latched on right away and nursed like a champ. In the beginning I was up pumping as much as I could because I was afraid of getting c...
